The Best Picnic Spots in Beautiful Sydney

We are blessed with an abundance of beautiful outdoor spaces throughout our magical city of Sydney and we need to celebrate them by getting out there Sydney has one of the most beautiful harbours in the world and it boasts some of the most amazing harbour beaches, parks and secret spots that are perfect for a picnic. 


Here is a pick of our favourite spots for a picnic with friends or your next corporate team gathering with Milk & Honey Picnics. 

Harbour Delights

Mary Booth Lookout, Kirribilli

No permit required for under 60 people. This popular spot fills up with joyful picnickers throughout the warmer months. Our sun umbrellas are a must here in the heat.

McMahons Point in the Lower North

Spectacular little spot for picnics from 2-30 people. Toilets are a 4-5 min walk at Blues Point. Parking isn’t too bad. You can catch a ferry here.

Observatory Hill, The Rocks

Perfectly situated in the Rocks, close proximity to public transport and the splendours of the historic Rocks area if you wish to continue after the event. Permits are not required. This park gets busy in the Summer, there are some pockets of shade under the trees but you may want to consider umbrellas.

Clark Park, Lavender Bay,

Just a walk away from Milson’s Point station, beautiful trees providing shade, this secret spot has layers of gardens and famous Sydney harbour views as far as the eye can see.

Parking can be a little tricky here so give yourself extra time or hop in an uber.

Quibaree Park, Lavender Bay

Iconic views of the Harbour Bridge and Luna Park. Toilets right there, parking not too bad. A fabulous spot for your picnic. Shade is limited, you would need to consider umbrellas for the summer months.

Barangaroo Reserve

Nestled in The Rocks behind some of Sydney’s oldest pubs with an abundance of space for your picnic. Convenient for larger groups. Permits are required to use this space. Some pockets of shade, in the Summer months umbrellas will be needed.

The Royal Botanic Gardens

A famous must do for anyone looking for a great picnic spot by the harbour with beautiful gardens and direct access to the city making it incredibly accessible for all the suburbs of Sydney. Take yourself on a picnic to this iconic spot and finish off with a cocktail at the famous Opera Bar, underneath the iconic Opera House. Permits are required for our picnics at the Botanic Gardens and cost $350+ depending on chosen spot.

Eastern Suburbs

Centennial Park

With an array of beautiful gardens, leafy trees and ponds filled with elegant swans this is the park of parks for a picnic. At Centennial Park you will be spoilt for choice with its incredibly large grounds with many incredible spots to choose from. It was hard to select one photo for Centennial Park as each spot is so unique with a different feel. Some of our favourites - Willow Pond, Duck Pond, Lachlan Reserve and Paperbark Grove.

Centennial Park ticks a lot of boxes - central, lots of parking, shade, toilets and of course natural beauty!

Queens Beach, Vaucluse

Come here for the most sensational sunset you’ll ever see. Perfect for date night, proposals or small gatherings.

Robertson Park, Watsons Bay.

What a treasure this part of the world is. Watsons Bay, right at the edge of the world is a paradise.

Steyne Park, Double Bay

Tucked away in the Eastern Suburbs this gorgeous park overlooks the sailboats and has gorgeous fig trees to shelter you. The park has toilets, playground, coffee cart and parking isn’t too bad!

Elizabeth Bay

Close to the city, adequate parking available, toilets and cafes. With views onto the water and gorgeous little nooks like the one pictured, make it a fabulous little spot.

Tamarama Beach on Sydney’s stunning East Coast.

You can watch the surfers ride the wives while enjoying your picnic on the grass. Alcohol is not allowed here.

Yaranabee Park, Rushcutters Bay.

Lovely large park with harbour views, lots of shade and parking. Dog friendly park.

Paddington Reservoir Gardens.

You will feel like you’ve left Sydney and landed perhaps in the Roman ruins. This place is something else. Ideally you’d catch an uber or be prepared to spend 5-10min looking for a spot. Shade is limited on the grassy area, if it’s hot consider our umbrellas. Otherwise, the perimeter of the gardens is undercover. Making it a perfect solution if it’s extremely hot or raining. No permit is required, however, no music is allowed

Shark Island

This is certainly a picnic you’ll never forget. For a picnic here you will need to arrange water taxis for both us and your guests. Certainly more logistics to consider but the end result will be marvelous.
